Here are some images of the creative process that
takes place in Uncle Eddie's workshop. His shop is an old 19th century
restored carriage house, part of the historical district of Cape Cod. Most
of the tools used in his wood carving are antiques inherited from his
family. The shake roofs of his castles are hand cut. Copper roofs are hand
shaped. The windows are
created from leaded stained glass. Each stone used in the walls, window
arches and doorways are individually mortared in place. Spiral stairways
are constructed from flat stones gathered from Cape Cod beaches. These are
found after the fierce Nor' Easters that New England is famous for. It
takes this kind of severe storm to create the breakers that send these
flat stones up to the surface and then onto the beaches. |
